Create a Great Attitude for Your Job and Career

Creating business strategy

It doesn’t matter if your goal is success at your current employer or success in your career overall—or both—your attitude is very important to attaining both.

Your attitude affects a wide range of things, from the quality of your work to the way in which you’re perceived by your co-workers.  In addition, your attitude has a direct impact on your confidence and self-esteem.

If you have a great attitude, your self-esteem is likely to be higher.  If your attitude is lacking, your self-esteem will be lacking.

Here are some tips to create a great attitude for both your job and your career, while boosting your confidence and self-esteem at the same time!

Create a list of your skill and abilities.

At what things do you excel?  Don’t list just those things that are related to your job or career, but list everything.  You never know when a particular skill will become valuable in a working environment.

Create a list of your past successes.

Putting an emphasis on positive achievements is a good way to help build confidence and a corresponding great attitude.  Perhaps you’ve forgotten much of what you’ve accomplished.  Document everything, no matter how insignificant it might seem.

Set both short-term and long-term goals.

In addition to setting both types of goals, be sure that the goals you set are realistic and attainable.  Yes, everybody wants to set aggressive goals, but they don’t mean much if there’s no way to achieve them.  In fact, it could backfire and have a negative effect on your confidence and self-esteem.

Learn how to handle pressure and criticism better.

No matter your personality type, you can train yourself to handle these things better.  This can be done in a number of different ways, including through workshops, books, tapes, or videos.  When it comes to criticism, it’s important to differentiate between “constructive” and “destructive.”  Learn and grow from the former, and largely ignore the latter.

Be relentlessly optimistic.

Yes, some people are more naturally optimistic than others.  However, optimism is a choice.  Not only does it put you in a better frame of mind for solving problems and overcoming obstacles, but people are also more drawn to those who are optimistic.

Skills, abilities, and talent can take you far.  However, a great attitude can help you to truly reach your professional potential.
